Spelling errors will not be tolerated.

Although they are not specifically prohibited by the ROC there are several provisions which cover them.

<blockquote><hr>

Show respect at all times.

[/ QUOTE ]

Spelling errors are horribly disrespectful to elementary school teachers, spell check programmers, and dictionary authors.

<blockquote><hr>

Help build the Community.

[/ QUOTE ]

Spelling errors do not help build the community. In fact, they are terribly destructive. Within the last month, many people have left these boards and UO due to rampant spelling errors. I believe Orvago is the latest. The poor spelling finally pushed him over the edge, i.e. Orvaga.

<blockquote><hr>

Deliberately circumventing the censor filter is prohibited.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pwnography is obviously pornography. Majorwoo is clearly a spelling mistake. Accidentally leaving the "d" off the end is the only thing saving this particularly poor speller from permanent banishment. Some however are a bit more subtle. Kelmo for instance is an easily disguised error which when correctly spelled equals Kill Mo. This actually demonstrates the next ROC violation.

<blockquote><hr>

Personal attacks are prohibited. This specifically means any text/post that is blatantly attacking another person on or off the forum, especially in a personal way.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know several geologists who find Petra Fyde to be a personal attack on their work with fossilized trees. They too have left these "boards".

I'm sure there are other violations that I am missing but this should be enough to demonstrate the symbiotic relationship of the ROC and good spelling.

Let us all work together to build a community which follows the rules-both the rules of conduct and of the English language.

NO U!!!

Take a peek at the WoW official realm forums for educational purposes, and then run back here, and count your blessings MM. You'll have a much greater appreciation for that person who can't spell Siege for example, simply because they can form complete sentences at least part of the time.

I've noticed quite a lot of people say 'than' when they really mean 'then'. I think it's an American trait but that niggles me a bit. Not a spelling error per se, but it makes the content of the sentence wrong.

hehe... I bet it "niggles" you more then a bit..

My biggest niggle about my problem is that my stupid figures refuse to follow my mind's lead... I'll be thinking one thing as I type but my fingers will decide to simply change the word to something else... perfectly correct spelling but different word as if my fingers are familiar with the typing of the world and would rather type it over what I'm thinking...

No, I cannot agree.

On Dec. 18, 1996, the Oakland School Board passed a resolution declaring Ebonics to be the language of 28,000 African-American students within that school district.

Try using this site: http://www.joel.net/EBONICS/translator.asp
if you come across what seems to be someone using ebonics.

There are also other considerations. What about Emma? Will she be asked to stop posting just because she is an Orc?

*mumbles*

And others for who(m) ESL (English is a Second Language).

Are you looking for a nomination to become a mod???? we seem to have enought (im from MI and most words for me end with a T) of thems round here.

I for one don't care about typos or honest misspellings. The important part of a message is its content, and generally the overall message of a post isn't made unclear by one or two typos or misspellings.

I think people get overly concerned about this sort of thing.

My pet hate, where spelling errors are concerned, is seeing 'rediculous'

I saw it so often I even looked it up to check that it wasn't one of those words where American English and British English differed.

It isn't, there are just an awful lot of people on Stratics boards that can't spell the word.

But to comply with your edict, do I type colour or color? armour or armor? defence or defense?
