Bugged T-Map-Location

Is this because of the mountainous terrain or were you given some sort of error message? As I am sure you know with treasure maps, if you run into an area that you cannot access either through potential terrain issues or because someone plopped a house over your map location you can wait a month and the map location will reset.
I recently decoded a map only to find the X was in the black space void area in Malas. I didn't want to hold it for a month to reset, so I trashed it for the 1,000 points.
