The Only Purpose for this Thread is to learn who on Baja has played the longest; Nothing More

Hail Folks,

It has been awhile since this has been discussed. With some leaving, with release of SA and the Open Return, I thought I'd revisit this topic.

Elladan is now 144 months old, as Sosarians reckon time. I opened my account in Sept 1997, first on eastern/midwestern shards, but came to Baja shortly after it was opened.

Elladans account has been continuously active with no dormant days.

I kno full well there are several, if not many older than I.

Speak, share with us and let us remember together.

There cant be more then a few left. I often think back to 98', all the great people, the vibrant community, good times long gone. Those people moved on, a few like myself hung in there a while longer.

To be frank, the UO reigns where handed to rank amateurs when Garriot left. I recall an event (98') that to me brought home the power of having a community based game.

I had purchased a set of Heavy archer armor from a blacksmith who often sat on his porch and smithed for his neighbors. His name was King Golden eye. He had a nice house up by a shrine. Between chasing off the random PK's that always wondered by he would craft goods.

As I left Brit on my journey to get repairs (not trusting the smiths camping the local forges) I ran into a seer leading a group of adventurers off to stop a white dragon that had laid waste to a local village.

The harbor was filled with fishermen spinning tales of messages in bottles and treasure. The local beggars where competing with the thieves that where rummaging through people's pockets. Newbies sparred in the streets trying to one up each other.

About half way through my journey cries of battle could be heard up ahead. I approached cautiously and saw a murderous mage attacking another. I quickly entered the battle to assist my fellow traveler and with two powerful blows the mage quickly fell. I talked briefly with my fellow traveler as we picked through the now deceased's pockets and discovered my new companion was also heading to King Golden Eye for repairs.

The rest of the trip was uneventful (If you ignore the temperamental ogre we ran into). We reached our destination, met up with our smith and got repairs.

While this trip doesn't sound like anything special it was clearly obvious to me the power of having a community based game, one where the development team provides TOOLS that allow the community to design content and shape it.

Sadly when Richard left the new developers failed totally to understand this concept and began to drive wedges into the community. They pitted one group against the other, they spread people out so far you could play for hours and never see another. The imposed a system where the game became item based. This placed real world value on items, which promoted cheating/hacking for the sake of real world profit. Damn the community, damn your neighbors, someone has an ebay sale to make. When your most prized possession was a GM made armor set, you where free to participate in the community and not waste your time grinding for items.

so the exodus began. Eventually new players replaced the old and the spirit of the original game left with them. When I would share these great old adventures with others I would often get blank stares. A subset of the community system was reborn when factions was introduced. But even this couldn't slow the exodus.

So I remember those great times and allow the rest to fade. Perhaps someday a new set of developers will come around and tear the abomination asunder, bringing new life to an old friend. The reality is, UO's future is directly tied to the success of EA's future projects. I suspect the board of directors have had their hand on the life support plug for a while.

Until then..

A gentleman would never expect a lady to divulge her age, so you'll understand when I say my account was old enough to claim an ethereal polar bear quite awhile back, but has unclaimed veteran rewards that indicate an even more advanced age. ;)

While a lot of changes and players have come and gone, many players are still with us. Exodus, Uffda and I have been experiencing UO together since 2000.

With the launch of SA it's been a bit like the old days when we went out exploring new lands together.

My oldest account was started in september of 1997 but I have taken many breaks so it shows up as 104 months. I remeber how awesome uo was back in the day when pks roamed the world. You had to be very cautious when you left town. I remeber one pk on Great lakes had hundreds of kills and over a million gold on his head. Back then a million gold was worth probably a trillion and I am not saying that litely. The pk I am refering to is no other than bob villa, rumored to be a stay at home mom lol. Those were the good ole days. Much like society today in real life the constant whinning of the few ruined a beautiful part of the game. There use to be a real since of excitement to the game back then. People actually paid gold for escorts to protect against pks. I remeber when Gods Wrath snuck into the Road House Auction house on great lakes the night before a huge auction of the shards most valuable items and all hid and logged out. The next day when the auction was going on the doors were locked and the richest people on the server began bidding on the items. Suddenly greater explosion pots flew into the aristocrats killing everyone of them and Gods Wrath made off with some very expensive items lol.
I miss the good ole days because of the excitement. Dont get me wrong I still love uo and even though I have played most of the other mmorpgs and beta tested quite a few of them uo is and will always remain my favorite.

Thankfully UO has changed a lot since the days when insane, murderous, thugs rulled the day.

UO woke up and came to its senses. Hopefully, so did you.

Hail good citizens of Baja. Oldest account is 137 months (June 98). We shared an account with close friends and family. I Oct 01, myself, son and 3 friends started our separate accounts and I also took control of the joint account. Soon we were in a guild called mAn (GM Homeless Ron) and our journey began all over again. When mAn got to big and out of control we started our own guild Defenders of the Shire (D_S). Our Guild stone is still displayed at the guild house. Sadly our friends left and about 6 months later so did my son, AoS killed the game for them. I still maintain the original, mine and my sons account. It has been and still is a very enjoyable game. Started on GL and came to Baja in 01, was the best move we made. Been here on Baja for over 8 years, some of the best people I have met are right here in Baja.

You Elladan not every PK is a childish idiot. I mean wow dude get over it! There aspects to every game out there that peopel do not like. You it seems is pvp, now I can not comment as to why. But you sir are acting like what you accuse the PK's of being! Yeah not sure of the age of any my accounts. I would say the oldest is like 140 some or so..

Sorry Elladan but people like this was the reason Tram was needed.

There were very few aspects to UO pre-Ren. Fel only you either went out with a lot of people to protect your Mule or you stayed in town. Yes there were some that did not bother a Mule but those were far and few between. Oh, here comes a great PvPer that kills a Mule, that player must be the best there is because he can kill a mule. That was your PKer at his best and then to top it off he trash talks you tell you to leave UO because you died. LOL
Those were the great old days of UO, NOT.

If you created your account in September 97 then you can safely say that you are about the oldest on the server. I started October 8th but I was in UO Beta and Alpha. The delay in my CD caused me to start my game late and the beta cd stopped working for me.

Trammel was not really needed imo until the day Age of Shadows came out. Items of such magnitude changed the way pvp would forever be dealt with.

I use to hunt in Hythloth forever with only that blasted Red Coats guild ever really harassing me in Felluca days.
