They are used for a quest you receive in the NPC Safezone of the Underworld, somewhat close to the Tram side entrance.
The quest giver asks for 4 Barley Barrels.
I have actually been looking for them myself, where abouts did you find them?

Flint gives the quest, prior to crossing the bridge to get to the undead room. Easy enough. Flints book spawns back where the green goblins hang out. Same with the barrels of barley. grab both the book and the barley when you are back there, save yourself a trip.
yup both are spawning in the back right side of the puzzle area goblins all around you
