Well last night there was another Luna fall. I hung round for a little while but didnt stay up for the big drop. I went and had a looksie this morning, looks like a guy from Napa has it. Whispering Rose Radio guy. They obviously made a new account for it cos he's young, but they were about to build it for events.

Im in some ways happy that it will go to somthing that will supposedly make our shard a little more exciting, im also terrably dissapointed that a local didnt get it. I would have loved to see someone from Oceania get lucky.

They are also advertizing a 'Deal or no deal' for Sat 6pm. After speaking to them they said people would figure out they ment today at 10am or somthing. Think they have a screw loose of somthing. They'd better go change it to a bit later of they want takers.

Oposite Bazaar's just out the east gate inside Luna walls.

They ran an event this morning at 9am, there were three Oceanians there, including a PoCer. No locals got in to be included in the event, it was all tourist sharders. But meh. *shrugs*
An event at 9am Sunday morning was never going to attract Australians in droves.

Aye it good if you ask me. All these houses with no one using them. Keeps Luna fresh!

Well that would be a good place for an event house easy to get to but then any house near any moongate or well used city is a good location for an event house.

Its a shame no locals got to be included in the event but I assume that was because of the luck of the draw and the fact that hardly any Oceanians turned up so our chances of being in the event where slimmer.

9am on a sunday is a tad harsh for us, BUT most of Whispering Rose Radio are from the other side of the world so to do things at a time that may be more popular for us means they are up to the weee hours of the morning for them, which is harsh for them.

I think it is just nice of them to want to take an interest in our shard at all, I mean we normally miss out on things like this. I figure they are doing the best they can.

Who knows maybe they will get some more Oceania DJ's and then events like this can be held at a more reasonable time for us.

Hello all Oceania,

This is Lord Nabin from the Ancient Conclave of Wisdom. My focus and goal is to help shards grow and expand the houses inside Luna from just Vendor locations to something of Value to the Shard. I have a few very quality friends on Oceania and have looked quietly to place something inside Luna to help expand this place for the last two years. You are now one of six shards that host Whispering Rose Radio and Deal or No Deal. A
non Vendor house inside the walls of Luna. Yes you are a half the world away from us in California but, Still an intregal part of UO and our goal to bring something of Value other than another Vendor house.

No I am not a member of Whispering Rose Radio but, I do believe in their entire staff that is why I personally sponsor these houses for their use and your shards enjoyment. I believe that Whispering Rose has a great heart for community and that they are looking for DJ's from your shard and time Zone to help bring your particular outlook to Oceania. Please apply www.wrrad.com Together we can build something that outlast us all.

I was a little disappointed a local didn't get it, too. It doesn't take an off-sharder to recognise it as a valuable events venue. Would be nice if the facility were utilised at a reasonable hour for locals, otherwise it may as well be another abandoned shop. I'd really prefer to see people promote & support locally produced events. Off-shard stuff is fine but it's not really "ours", and it's a shame to see locals squeezed out.

I thought WRR were based in/promoting Brackenwood Village? Have they withdrawn support?

Jedi did Deal or No Deal before, but that's not really my point.

All I'm saying is it's a shame a prime spot on our shard went offshore.

I guess this is like the glass half empty or the glass half full because people see it differently.

I mean everyone has posted for months now that Oceania is dead and needs more life be it in fel or tram.

And now someone does something about it, yes someone from another shard has brought a house here. And now some people see it as a bad thing as in a local missing out, even thought it was not being used by a local really any way. And others see it as someone bringing something to the shard, as another attraction and fun player event we can participate in.

I think it is whether you choose it to be a positive thing and get behind it and show support or a negative thing and you want to complain about it and have it die out and end.

Yes deal or no deal was held this morning and yes hardly any Oceanians where there BUT if they get DJ's from our shard willing to work with them or people willing to work with them and show support there is no reason that Deal Or No Deal couldn't be a big hit. It just needs time help and support like any other player run event.

I guess people just have to decide if they want to be positive about it or negative.

For me personally I see it as a positive the more player run events the more attractions for Oceania and the more people visiting our shard the better. Who knows some of them may transfer here and make it a permanent home.

So I say Welcome Whispering Rose Radio and if you need any help just give us a shout.

Despite repeated requests for coverage with plenty of advanced notice, by email and icq on more than one occasion for each event starting with initially for the EVE xmas party, then for auctions in Jan, Feb, and then Skittering Skirmish, WRR has failed to come to the party in providing any coverage for any of the events. So much so that other than one member who at least apologies for lack of coverage, Sandman, it seems that rather than promote events locally it appears the agenda is to usurp them.

WRR have a house in the Brackenwood Village which could be used and promoted for player run events but as yet it seems that they do not wish to use these premises nor provide promotion out of them for any player run events run in the village. Given the venues available in the village for use by anyone it was an opportunity to actually create something different for player run events, however without support or promotion it is a wasted opportunity.

EVE runs monthly auctions and the Casino out of the Emporium in Luna and has done for years. It is not and has never been 'just' a vendor house, but also a public rune library and a staging post for many events for [EVE] and previously Fox-Emporium. I find it a little odd that there seems to be no investigation of current event groups on this shard nor what they do and have done in the past before people make comment on the lack of things in luna other than 'vendor houses'.

Our group has run more player run events, given more in prizes and give aways than any other event group on this shard, and for a lot longer than any other event group, yet we fail to get any support from WRR.

Even so, we have operated since 2005 until now and will continue to do so, and hope that the people on our shard continue to support locally produced and run events into the future, and hope that at some point WRR actually does make good on the promised promotion for local events.

WRR have covered events on our shard such as Despise Dungeon Boogie, The Halloween Party, Deceit Dungeon Boogie, Deal or No Deal has been done on our shard before also.

Yes the coverage has not been 100% of the time but they have had changes of location and houses to complete, they have had a change of DJ's and I do not believe they have Oceania based DJ's any more. And they have been servicing ALL shards not just ours. And sometimes time schedules do not meet up and WRR are more them apologetic about that.

Hopefully things change and they not only increase in listener base here but also staff and then event coverage can be what we would like it to be. But I guess it has to be understood this is a service they do for FREE, and with there own time they are human just like you and me and sometimes things do not go as we would like them to.

Ama i understaind and agree with a lot of what your saying, however. Id like to remind Oce that back when they were UORadio i (yes me Jah) was Oceanias Event Promoter for UORadio. My job was to keep my eyes and ears open and let UORadio, more specifcally Sandman, Rose and a few other people who have also become WWR, know about it, so they could cover it.

In the 6 months i did this, they came to one event. I would be talking to them directly in teamspeak, and they just wernt interested, cos 'Who'd be listening at this time of morning?'.

Whats the good of them having an event house in Luna? It could be used daily, and we still wont see anything of it, cos it will always be at a time where i know i certainly dont want to be awake.

Its just going to be another house thats just sitting there. Personaly id rather a vendor house then that, and idealy id love an Oce owned event house.

I want you also all the understaind it prolly doesnt help the way i feel about this, as this is a big problem where i live irl. I live in a small town on the Great Ocean Rd, where the majoraty of the houses are owned my 'out of towners'. All it does is put the prices up, and makes it impossible for a local to get into the market. Which is exactly whats happening in Oceania.

WRR and UORADIO are not the same management team ...yes some of the OLD uoradio staff left and made WRR but they are not the same management team. SO anything that happened with UORADIO is irrelevant.

As for the house JUST going to be sitting there....what do you think it was doing before it went IDOC? at least this way it is going to be used every now and then for the good of our community. And if we choose to support WRR rather then shoot it down before it really has begun on our shard, we may get dj's from our time zone so shows at a more reasonable time for us and more of our events are easier for them to cover.

And as sad as what is happening in your local community and I can understand it clouding your judgment a little, it is not really the same the number of Locals to Cross sharders on Oceania is far far larger.

I had heard one report from a player friend attending the Luna fall, that water barels were placed so as to allow only a 7x7 plot to be placed when it fell.

Unfortunately, I have no way to verify this player's version of events as I did not attend due to a Castle IDOC just outside of Vesper.

If WRR placed water barrels with the intention of securing the spot and did so that way I do not wish to participate in their events or tune into anything they're broadcasting, as I do not believe a placement contest should go down to who can water-barrel a prime placement spot down to a 7x7.

I have nothing against their wish to pursue a tactic which is not currently acted on if reported to Game Masters, however, I do not believe that players have the right to barrel up someone else's property, if the former owner came back and reactivated during the IDOC cycle only to find water barrels everywhere they would have every right to have the people placing barrels paged on for harassment.

Cheers ...

DarkVoid

Yes, there were a number of water barrels placed all over the plot, except for a small region in the middle where a 7x7 was placed. The person doing it seemed to be pacing the plot out & someone speculated that was to measure it up for a placing script, but I've no idea if that's the case. Maybe ask one of our IDOC experts if that's typical.

WRR has not placed any water barrels I can promise you that! Nabin has purchased all properties legally!

I am representing WRR when I say that it's very much appreciated what Nabin (of Napa) is doing for us. (We love you!!) He is totally right when he says that we have a "great heart for community". That's why we do community events on almost every shard..free to the players. Nabin also has a big heart for shard growth. He has purchased many homes for our studios to entertain and help shard growth. One of the reasons it works best for us (holding our shows within the walls of Luna) is.. on most shards we go to we only have newbie chars...thus no gates to the weekly event. With the studios in Luna, we won't need a gater. Plus it gets more attention in Luna with passersby. More people on that shard can participate without a hastle.

We put on the Deal or No Deal UO Style show weekly (on different shards) for the enjoyment of everyone in Sosaria no matter which shard they may be from (x-shard event). All gold won is given on the shard of the winner's choice. We hold it at the same day/time each week so it's consistant. We appologize that it may be to early (or late) in the day in some parts of the world.

A handfull of us have started and followed WRR with the hopes of improvement with better management (plus we couldn't post on Stratics being attached to UORadio). We need our voices to be heard..especially with events.

We believe players (for the most part) look for shard support, growth, development and community interactions. Well, as a small (UO based) internet radio station we try to achieve that on ALL shards. AND it's not easy. Some don't agree with the time..some don't agree that we lay down books/runes or pathways on their shard because it's "littering their shard causeing lag". Y'all don't realize that there are many hoops to jump through, many hours of work putting on just Deal or No Deal UO Style. Making books on ALL shards to pass out, passing out the books before showtime, setting up the studio for that week's gameplay, collecting books for gameplay, making sure there are an ample amount of robes to dye shard colors, setting up the player boxes, keeping track of all xshard checks to be paid after the show..that's just one event. We have many more to come includeing "You bet your life". Which means..after answering questions..entering a gate and if you return through the gate...you get a special prize. Also understand that this is all volunteer work we do..no one gets paid for their time and efforts. Such is our commitment to bringing events to the UO community.

Katlene is correct! Someone can always do a deal oce style. Jahira, you know how events are ran from working with us at UORadio. (We didn't hear of many events from you but that's water under the bridge). Feel free to start your own on oce to suit your shard time. It's just to hard for us in the United States to change the time of a weekly show that's been going on for over a year and a half for a few shards. That's why we haven't held one on Oce in a long time. We knew the local time would be to early...but...we decided to give it a try again to see if it was time well spent. We actually saw alot of people on Oce at that time while prepareing for our show. PoC was a huge help to us with Opella throwing gates to the studio. Thanks again!

And Thank You Amathist for speaking on behalf of WRR. Thank you for staying on top of what we stand for, what we believe in and what we are trying to achievement. We love you sweetie!

I'm not an expert but I've been doing IDOC's for almost 5 years now.
Yes, this is the normal way scripters place them now a days. They are
almost impossible to beat too. There's usually 2 to 4 of them working
together placeing and gathering most the loot if not placeing so quick
that everything seems to sit on the new plot so no one can get it.

Considering who and what your talking about this doesn't suprise me..

Just notes the no comment.

And yes, there is a lot of work in running events, WRR isn't the only one who does them, however, there is no point running events early morning or at times when no one is around. In the evening USA ( around 7pm onwards) is about mid morning to lunch time aussie time you just need to remember we are a day ahead, so your Saturday evening is our Sunday lunchtime. It is not that difficult to work out the timezones.

Other than the xmas party all the EVE-vents which requested coverage were held 1pm our time, hence around 8pm your time. It was not the lack of coverage that was annoying it was the lack of any response at all, ie no replies to icq, no replies to the submissions made on your website, zip, nada, nothing. Even the event I was assured would be covered did not get covered after me setting aside time to discuss it with your rep.

Are you a radio station or an event group? It seems to me you are trying to do both rather than concentrate on one or the other until it works efficiently and correctly.

I am all for support of WRR and appreciate the fact you do what you do, I also understand how you do it for free, as we ALL do, those of us who do anything for the community be it events, fansites and websites, player help etc, however, when you start impinging on properties on our shard, to run your own events, then I do wonder what exactly the agenda is for WRR.

If you are intending to run events, fine, players will attend or not as they are free to attend any player run event. However, I don't think WRR can claim being there to support the shard communities and event groups existing on shards when even when using your own 'submit an event' system there is no response, nor follow up, nor coverage, or feedback as to why promised event coverage does not occur.

Certainly from where I sit it appears that 'deal or no deal' which you run, every week, seems to be heavily impinging on what a 'radio' station should be for, playing music, covering shard activities and discussion about UO etc etc. There is heaps in this area that could be done to broaden the listening audience from interviews to discussion on various changes to uo as they happen, discussion and help on KR, to tips and tricks for players learning as well as various musical categories. If your intent is to go heavily into events, then I would think that this can only be detrimental to your main focus WR........Radio.

When you forget the 'main aim' and split resources, time and energy, then everything becomes just 'OK' instead of well done and focussed. Not only that, it makes existing event groups give up bothering to submit stuff to you as the lack of response or coverage tends to put us off from continued submission. I know I am hesitant about bothering again, as it takes me time to continually follow up and try to get feedback or even an answer.

I have always been a supporter of WRR, I have encouraged your 'non'-used building in our event village, decorated it at xmas for you, promoted you on my website Spellweave.com for EVE-vents , fixed you up with the building you operate out of outside Umbra etc etc. Yet in response have so far received little in the way of support in return.

I guess my feedback is you seem to have lost the main 'aim' and it would be nice to see you get back on track and provide the service that you 'claim' before starting on other things. And this is provided as 'constructive' criticism, again, I appreciate what anyone does for UO and the community on any shard, I would just like to see things done 'well' rather than 'so so' or 'sometimes, maybe' or in my experience 'never'.

Many barrels were placed. But ofcourse theres no way to proove who did what... whatever.

He certainly didnt purchase it. He placed it.

Anyhoo. Im not against WWR having the house. Id have just liked to see someone local get it. Thats all i said.

I know it was just sitting there before, i never said it wasnt. I also dont want to sound like a whining fishwife. Or a celebraty hugger. So ill just shut up now.

Yeah thats the way its done. There is a bug with jugs to make them hold more water in them and better for the scripts. The script fills the barrels and empties them in seconds, just in enough space for a small house to fit.

Happens everywhere, all shards, by those who are well known at doing dirty things, and even those who aren't.

i honestly cant see how hard it would be to delay the deal events for a couple of hours. they start at what 6pm your time? make it 8? at least then most of the population may be awake and online. If your going to do events over different shards you need to be prepared to make sacrifices when it comes to the time in order to get max involvment.

I was thinking along the lines or 'Tree hugging hippie' as 'Celeb hugging hippie'

[/ QUOTE ]

Hugs are always welcome, I am a friendly person.

But I am not a "celeb huging hippie" Jahira, I just don't follow everyone else and jump on the bashing the cross sharders wagon. All they want to do is join our fun and bring us a little entertainment to our shard...hardly a sinister plan or alterer motive there.

The house was unused it went IDOC now it will be used...first in best dressed. WRR spend a fair bit of time on our shard visiting this and that and covering some events so I consider them just as welcome to the plot as anyone else.

It is not like they can pick it up and take it back to another shard the house will be staying on our shard and will be for the use of people on our shard and anyone else who wants to come and visit.

And I think it is Jahira who needs a hugs because all the post this week have seemed to be some form of complaint...Papua = Complaint it was cleaned up, IDOC House = Complaint someone from another shard got it and then the Uo Meet = Complaint child free zone. Are you not getting enough cuddles Jahira?

Everyone give Jahira a hug...come on group hugs
