Continued from Magic and Science: A Tale of Pirates and Hookers.

Almost a fortnight has passed since students encountered Fortunada, a mysterious woman who claimed the power of foresight. After being recognized by a pair of Gypsies as one of their own, the Pagan witch entered into a deep, Delphic trance, promising to divine the location of the Metallurgist and his captor.

Instead, she led us into a trap.

We found not a Man in Black, but one dressed in white, who stood staring out at the Sea of Britain. Some attempted to start a conversation with the man, hoping he might have seen something, but it was not long before the mob arrived, pressing and jostling against each other, demanding Ren's captor. The man protested, demanding to be let alone, but it was no use. At last, he raised his hands above his head, and chanted. A door opened, a tear in the fabric of the Void, a window into a dark, torchlit room.

He beckoned. We followed.

...and were set upon by a legion of madmen, hulking behemoths who foamed at the mouth, their arteries bulging from their arms. Genetically engineered warriors, little better than Ghouls, a pack of ravenous dogs unwaveringly loyal to their sorcerous master. We managed to overcome the small horde, only to find the robed man gone, the burnt remnants of his laboratory shattered and broken beneath our feet.

We brought back the papers we discovered to the Healer, who revealed, after some interrogation, the nature of our Man in White. This was the work of her former apprentice, Ryan. He had been a brilliant, albeit sociopathic student of the art. His master work was manipulating the mind – and in turn, personhood – through magical and alchemical means. With this knowledge, he could create an army of biomechanical abominations, with no thought of death, or poison the minds of thousands, leading them in an orgiastic spectacle of violence and anarchy.

So our enemy has shown his face, has he? The hunt was on.
